Education Summer Student

Term: Temporary Summer Position | Mid-May – August 2026
Must be returning to school in September of 2026

Overview:
The Wolastoqey Tribal Council Inc. (WTCI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening the capacity of its five member communities in New Brunswick – Matawaskiye, Wotstak, Bilijk, Sitansisk, and Welamukotuk. WTCI provides services and programming in key areas including Health, Education, Training & Employment, Governance, and Emergency Management.

The WTCI Education Team is dedicated to advancing education within member communities by creating meaningful opportunities for growth, learning, and development. As part of this commitment, we strive to provide post-secondary students with valuable, hands-on experience in the field of education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of summer events, including hands-on participation at activities held across 5 Wolastoqey communities
  • Help develop, prepare, and share educational, cultural, and informational materials for youth, families, and community members
  • Actively work with the WTCI Education Team and member communities to support and strengthen local education programs and community-based initiatives
  • Work collaboratively alongside WTCI staff and community partners to help develop and deliver WTCI youth initiatives, including land-based education activities, cultural teachings, and harm-reduction initiatives
  • Contribute to broader WTCI programs and initiatives by providing general program and administrative support as needed

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a related field preferred (e.g., Education, Indigenous Studies, Social Work) and returning to studies in Fall 2026
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with community members
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to manage multiple tasks independently
  • Knowledge of and interest in First Nations communities in New Brunswick, particularly in the context of education
  • Experience working directly within First Nations communities is an asset
  • Genuine interest in Wolastoqey communities, including their culture, history, and language
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using video conferencing platforms such as MS Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence, access to a reliable vehicle with insurance
  • Willingness to travel to Wolastoqey communities
  • Must be able to provide a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
